Mark Woodard is one of the most experienced figures in British MMA — a man who has been training since the age of six, accumulating over 60 years immersed in martial arts, from the early days of Judo and Karate through to the modern landscape of mixed martial arts.

His martial arts journey spans an extraordinary breadth of disciplines: Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and various forms of Kung Fu. He holds the rank of 7th Dan, with Black Belts in both Kickboxing and Ju-Jitsu, and competed as a former Kickboxing Champion — battle-testing the techniques he would go on to teach for decades.

As a coach, Mark has produced numerous champions in both Kickboxing and MMA. His son Jack Woodard — the first-ever Black Belt in the Outlaw MMA system — became the TFC South West Area MMA Champion, a testament to the depth of the system Mark built from the ground up.

Beyond coaching, Mark is a licensed MMA referee with BAMMA, one of the UK's most prestigious fight promotions, with a full record on Sherdog. He served as President of the UKMMAF (UK Mixed Martial Arts Federation) — the governing body responsible for the sport's regulation, standards, and development across the United Kingdom — playing a central role in shaping the rules, officiating culture, and infrastructure that British MMA operates under today.

MMA for the Human Condition is the distillation of everything Mark has learned across five decades — as a competitor, coach, referee, and community builder. Written for fighters and non-fighters alike, it delivers 18 chapters of wisdom that go far beyond technique.
